Rock & Roll 101

June 24th, 2024

In Levi's lesson we started out again with the reading of the drum notation, getting through exercise 1 and part of 2. He seemed to have a difficult time remembering things from one moment to the next today- maybe he was tired from school.

We briefly looked at Thriller again.

I asked Ryan to try to keep him looking at the drum music a bit through the summer so he doesn't forget.

Levi did well today!

We started with some rhythm reading on the drum staff to help him identify where the various drum instruments are. Here's a tutorial I use:

Levi played through the quarter-note beat, and we tried at the eighth note beat for a bit.
He counted 1 through 4 and included the ands in the count.
He added a crash on beat 1.
He added a tom on beat 4.
We tried counting to eight (where the tom would be on beat 8), but that was just a bit at the end.
